To make things unique, and different, you should have it so after every win, you are able to use the person you won against weapon or w/e in the next battle.

sounds like a good idea but it could leave to overpowerment, i think it would have to be like a pokemon game, if you win you can choose to get one of their powers in exchange for a previous power, but you have to keep at least one of your original powers, im gonna put it up for a vote
